It is argue that the performance of an interconnection system used has an ever-increasing effect on the reliability of total weapons systems. Therefore, interconnection systems should be developed and qualified as a system operating in a specified environment. System requirements should include, but not be limited to: operating temperature range, expected life, fluid tolerance, mechanical toughness, and flame retardancy. Summarizing these requirements, the authors state that wear links in weapons systems, or any materials in any military vehicle that propagate flame, should be eliminated.
