Reliability, maintainability, and supportability are key elements of design assurance which have, until recently, been overshadowed by cost, schedule, and performance factors. Both military and commercial customers are now demanding that these design assurance elements become part of the up-front design process. An electronics design analysis expert system recently developed by General Dynamics Space Systems Division is described which improves system reliability early in the design/development cycle of military equipment.
