A general description of the NASA Space Station and a proposed Space Station gallery design are presented and the objectives of the contracts which funded this work are reviewed. The design problems encountered while designing a refrigerator, freezer, dishwasher, and combination clothes washer/dryer for microgravity operation are discussed. As the design problems are introduced, it is shown how the solutions to the problems have impacted the designs.
