An approach and methodology are described for providing automated control in a multiprocess environment for the display and management of tactical graphical icons in an object-oriented environment. The display language developed provides support for graphical functionality that emulates graphical operations in a conventional tactical environment, and it provides a means of extending this functionality in a battlefield automated system.
