The effectiveness of utilizing electrical energy in the gas industry is demonstrated, in particular for main-line transportation of gas with allowance for regional and industry-wide aspects. Electric drives are efficient and are economically equivalent to gas-turbine drives in many regions of the European part of the nation and Siberia. The requirements for extensive utilization of electric drives are reliable, high-quality supply of electricity and the introduction of regulated electric motors.
