The aeronautical telephone service initiated on May 6, 1986 has been provided as the public telephone for the exclusive use of telephone cards for airplanes at an altitude of higher than 5000 meters. The aeronautical telephone service system uses both the existing car telephone system and the exchange/control system for system economy. The system is outlined and its characteristics are described. The mobile service station for the aeronautical telephone service (A-MSS) is connected to the public telephone network through the microwave base station and automobile telephone exchange station by the microwave circuit control station.
