The defence industry is a major consumer of electronics racks and enclosures, mostly either purpose designed or tailored to the particular requirements of the services. Sizes range from single Versatile Console System (VCS) boxes up to submarine rack systems with a volume of over two cubic metres. The operating environments and therefore the functional requirements vary enormously and must be taken into account in the design of specialised enclosures.
