The authors report on investigations into the feasibility of the fast recharge of an electric vehicle battery from a stationary battery. A model for battery discharge simulation is presented. A real-time simulation of a battery with this model, in combination with a real battery, is used to simulate various ways of battery-to-battery charging. The validity of the simulation is tested by comparison with real battery-to-battery charging experiments. The advantages and disadvantages of different methods are discussed. The thermal limitations of fast battery charging, and charging at constant, resistance-free-voltage as an optimum method of fast battery recharge, are discussed.
