At its Lansdale, Penn., plant, Ford Electronics and Refrigeration Corp. (FERCO) manufactures electronic products employed in most Ford automobiles beginning with the 1986 model year. More than 18 million hybrid devices have been assembled in this first year. Each hybrid is configured on an 80 mm by 80 mm square of ceramic substrate. The hybrid is not sized primarily to conform with mechanical and electrical requirements. The size is chiefly dictated by the handling capabilities of automatic equipment.
