One of the major problems in pipe operation is the deposition of solid species on the inner surfaces of the pipes, resulting in pressure loss and increased energy consumption. Conventional cleaning methods have proved to be time-consuming and not always effective. The authors proposed a new cleaning method based on a sphere rotating in the fluid flowing through the pipe. In the present paper, they define the conditions that assure the steady rotation of the sphere in the fluid and investigate the parameters of the system.
