After a short review of the theory of high temperature superconductivity (HTSC) the properties of HTSC materials at microwave frequencies and possible applications are discussed. An equipment for measuring the microwave surface resistance being a quality figure of HTSC materials is described. Due to the possibility of passive cooling by radiation into space, use of these materials seems to be advantageous in space applications.
