An intelligent suspension system has been developed based on a continuously variable shock absorber and fuzzy logic, getting a level of performance unattained with previously developed systems. The system has been installed in a SEAT-VW Cordoba GTI and the improvement in the levels of safety and comfort have been confirmed by tests carried out in real conditions. The results have heen compared with other types of tests carried out, and are similar to those achieved with semi-active suspension systems based on vehicle dynamics, which, in addition, require much more expensive sensors. The resulting variable suspension system, LIPTRONIC, has a good cost/profit ratio and can be easily adapted to all types of vehicies, as it has been proved by the different versions developed). The testing and tuning up of the parameters can be performed on line by means of specially developed software tools.
