Future SAR instruments for space applications will be based on active phased array antennas. The key components of this type of antenna are the T/R Modules. This paper discusses the system requirements, the performance of RF components and possible module architectures, based on the requirements for a spaceborne X-Band SAR application. The realisation and performance of T/R Modules for a bread board antenna demonstrator is presented. Finally future aspects for a next generation of T/R Module design are presented.
