The traffic telematics system IntraGSM demonstrated by DeTeMobil in a lot of field trials, e.g. on the motorway A 555 or in the Rhein-Main area, offers a variety of different applications: emergency calls, help services, dynamic route guidance, automatic fee collection, etc. Based on two well established standard technologies GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication) for communication and GPS (Global Positioning System) for navigation the system offers cross-border blanket coverage services without special roadside infrastructure. At the core of the system, a sophisticated Smart Card provides the basis for flexible modes of payment not only of road tolls but of any other traffic telematics service.
