A spreadsheet is used as the development environment for a dynamic force model of a manoeuvring ship. The dynamic equations are coded by a method of selfreferencing formulas. The technique does not require spreadsheet macros and is described in the paper. Some advantages and disadvantages of spreadsheets for this type of application are discussed.
