In electrical vehicle applications, AC drives have become, nowadays, attractive rivals of DC drives due to the evolution in semiconductor technology. A paramount concern in such applications is the overall efficiency of the motor and its PWM controller. This is largely influenced by the specific motor design, the harmonic structure of the PWM waveform and its interaction with the motor. In this paper the authors implement a model enabling accurate representation of an AC drive, in order to optimize the operation of an inverter fed squirrel cage induction, motor for electrical vehicle applications.
