Electric vehicles are a desirable addition to the transportation fleet throughout the world because of energy security and air quality benefits, especially in urban areas. Since electric vehicle technology is still in a state of flux, no standard drive solution is available. ELIN is developing a high-tech induction motor drive, working without speed sensors. The inverter is based on fast-switching IGBT modules, enabling motor currents of up to 220 A (rms). Heart of the control unit is a digital signal processor, performing different tasks including high-speed current control.
