Auotmotive electronics systems have evolved from the basic requirements of 'running, turning and stopping' into new requirements such as comfort and convenience. From now, the need for environmental protection, safety and energy conversation will further intensify. It is electronics that will significantly contribute to solve the problems in these areas. On the other hand, the electronics-based system is predicted to become more complex and then must face the problems of cost, weight and space. The ever expanding wire harness is one of suh problems. The use of fewer wires and of onboard LAN (Local Area Network) systems are being considered as a solution. In this report, the authors will present the updated picture of car electronics, the challenges that car electronics faces, and the relationship between automobile and fiber optics.
