The proposed solution presents three main advantages: The input current is sinusoidal and in phase with the mains voltage, so the power factor is almost unity. This allows an optimisation of charging time and a decrease in mains perturbations. The converter is direct, so the number of power switches and reactive elements are limited, as the semiconductors which are used are at their highest performances. This results in a decrease in power losses, as well as an appreciable saving of weight and volume. The high frequency enables the few reactive-elements values and the transformer dimensions to be minimized, again saving weight and volume.
