This paper gives a presentation of a Ka band FMCW radar developed at the Defense Research Establishment, Valcartier, to perform moving target identification of military vehicles. This radar is fully coherent and operates in the Ka band (34 to 36 GHz). This radar is unique in the way it allows target acquisition in real time since the frequency sweep of a bandwidth of 1.2 GHz is produced in less than 6 ms. This paper presents the FMCW radar, the signal processing technique and some field test results.
