In this paper the behaviour of a special self-drive synchronous three-phase motor is studied by simulation, which is fed by a voltage supply with only three transistors. The model introduces fictitious windings over and above the real ones. Few of the parameters can be determined by simple tests and it is necessary to take into account the temperature of the windings and of the permanent magnets. The electrical model is validated by comparison of rms value of current, input power and torque obtained by simulation and measurements. This model permits also to draw different characteristics of the motor and to define the optimal conditions of the voltage supply and of the instant of conduction of the transistors.
