The magnetically levitated transportation system (maglev) is going to be utilized practically before the turn of the century. The impact given by maglev transports on power electronics technology is described as well as short introduction of maglev systems. The electromagnetic suspension system depends strongly on the current controller, which can operate in high frequency, to be applicable to the high speed system as 500 km/h. The long-stator propulsion system to realize also high speed system, requires as many high power frequency converters as trains running over tracks of the transportation system. In the case of the superconducting maglev system, the operational characteristics of the superconducting magnets are influenced by the waveform of the current flowing in the long stator. It also needs application of high frequency modulation.
