The recent events of the Gulf war have, in effect, made high technology respectable. In the airborne radar domain this lends impetus to active electronically scanned antennas as a means of bringing significantly improved radar operational performance. This type of radar has been studied in concept for twenty years by the industry visionvaries, but not yet fully implemented. Several enabling technologies are involved, which have only recently reached the maturity needed for success. Such equipments will be available in 1995 for ground applications and at the beginning of the century for airborne applications.
