Object-oriented programming and simulation is becoming increasingly well accepted by Pentagon and Government planners as a means to quantitatively support military acquisition and investment strategy analyses. Object-oriented simulation in this context supports the military decision-maker by allowing for the quantitative assessment of the outcomes of large-scale military encounters. This permits the assessment of current readiness, the impact of acquiring new systems, or the impact of adversary acquisitions in scenarios of interest. This paper describes recent experiences in the development and use of object-oriented simulation in support of this acquisition and investment strategy process. The simulation tools to be discussed have been employed with excellent success in support of actual studies, and they show promise of leading to further improvements in the manner in which military planners plan for the future.
