The calibration concept of the advanced spaceborne thermal emission and reflection radiometer (ASTER) for EOS-A platform is described at the beginning of Phase C study. Spectroradiometric characteristics to be calibrated are identified, and mission requirements are presented for the evaluation accuracy of the characteristics. Prelaunch and in-flight calibration plans are described for visible and near infrared (VNIR), short wave infrared (SWIR), and thermal infrared (TIR) subsystems as well as a proposed scheme for cross calibration of ASTER against other EOS-A optical and thermal infrared instruments.
