This paper describes a method which has been used to calculate the thermal response of sodium sulphur batteries under a variety of discharge conditions. The method accounts for some of the more significant effects such as resistance variation with temperature and current sharing between cells. Theoretical and experimental results are compared and detailed predictions made for temperatures across a bank of the ETX-II battery.
