The tracking problem of unknown marine platforms using bearing and frequency measurements is often poorly conditioned. Especially in long-range scenarios inaccurate and noisy measurements form and additional problem. The Maximum Likelihood estimates of the position and velocity parameters are obtained by using a Newton-type method with suitable numerical properties.
