The use of speech input and output for a pilot's assistant system in single-pilot IFR flights is presented. The pilot's assistant system is focussed on situation assessment, planning and plan execution tasks during an instrument approach. The software and hardware of the speech system are described, as well as the experimental setup of the complete system as it is implemented in a flight simulation facility at the University of the German Armed Forces in Munich.
