This book evolved from the lecture notes of a continuing education course presented at the Georgia Institute of Technology. The course faculty includes the author, his colleagues at Georgia Tech, and consultants. Part I presents the basic principles of pulsed doppler radar without resorting to a heavily mathematical treatment. Part II describes the high-, medium-, and low-pulse repition frequency (PRF) modes and present the advantages and disadvantages of each. Part III explains the major signal processing functions of doppler filtering, pulse compression, tracking, synthetic aperture, selection of medium PRFs, and resolving range ambiguities. Part III concludes with an example of a hypothetical, but realistic, signal processor for a multimode airborne radar. Part IV shows how to predict the performance of a pulsed doppler radar in the presence of noise and clutter. Part V contains a brief discussion about testing.
