Austin Rover's body engineering techniques have been to the forefront of the company's computer aided technology drive. The recent installation of a five axis computer controlled model machining centre driven by a direct link from the CAD system has taken this technology a significant step foreward. This unique set-up is configured to support the Styling and Prototype Puild functions. Compared with the traditional manual methods, the devised system architecture and high speed continuous five axis machining capability combine to dramatically reduce the design-to-manufacture lead times and associated costs as well as increasing accuracy and providing greater flexibility at the important concept design stages.
