Mg-doped SrTiO3 (SrTi(1-x)Mg(x)O(3-delta)) has been studied from the viewpoint of application for a lean-burn oxygen sensor. The sensitivity characteristics and the response time of the specimens have been investigated in the exhaust gas of air-propane combustion. Among the specimens, SrTi(0.6)Mg(0.4)O(3-delta) shows the lowest resistivity and the highest sensitivity to oxygen in the temperature range 600 to 800 Cel in the learn-burn region. In order to clarify the relationship between adsorbed oxygen and sensing characteristics, the behaviour of adsorbed oxygen on the specimens has been investigated by means of temperature programmed desorption (TPD). In addition, introduction of a Pt catalyst leads to a sensor with a fast response time of less than 500 ms.
