The tracking radar outlined in this paper in terms of design and performance has been developed for anti-aircraft and anti-missile gunnery fire control and trials have been conducted in two types of defence system each using twin rapid fire guns. It is essential that the radar system is a compact modular design so that the installation can be tailored to the confined space of a particular gun turret or easily accommodated on deck in naval applications. A feature of the radar design is flexibility, sufficient to accommodate the customer's requirements which may arise after the system proving trials are complete. The comfortable situation, where the customer asks for and specifies a design for development, is no longer a reality.
