Secondary power supplies are an integral part of many spacecraft subsystems, and often each is designed to unique system requirements. They require a precise balance of components to achieve high efficiency, small size, low weight, and high reliability. This takes considerable time, and is considered by many an art of parameter balance and patience. In addition, since the system design process is one of constant adjustments of requirements, the engineer must perform several redesign iterations. There are simulation tools to help, but they lack the visibility to make the engineer feel confident that the design can accommodate the required operating changes. Expert systems technology has been selected to help. This paper describes how it is being used within the Knowledge Engineering Environment (KEE), by IntelliCorp, on a LISP Machines Inc., Lambda 2x2+.
