This paper discusses the work performed on a prototype system that is a combination of two expert systems. The first system is a fault diagnostic and isolation system that possesses a limited capability to correct faults. The second is an experiment, payload, and subsystem scheduler. Both of these systems focus their domain expertise on the NASA Space Station environment. Some of the problems of accomplishing this project are discussed and the adopted solutions are presented. The application area provides an excellent example of the benefit and role of cooperating expert systems.
