The application of the 4Q/GTO chopper propulsion control system represents the latest development in chopper technology. This paper highlights the salient features of the system, reviews the principle circuit components tailored to Singapore Mass Rapid Transit trains and discusses the performance evaluation processes, in particular, energy efficiency considerations. Some of the total of 66 six cars trains have already been delivered to Singapore with test and trial running now being conducted prior to the commencement of revenue service later this year.
