This paper involves the development of the optimal control strategy for traffic process regulation at nonsignalized intersections on rural roads. Various froms of control strategies were investigated and their effect in the network examined, using computer simulation techniques. In order to derive the optimal control strategy, a set of objectives and selected measures of effectiveness were generated. To evaluate the alternatives, figures of merit were needed such as measure effectivness of the entire system under consideration while also evaluating alternatives by means of the explicite values. The final stage of methodology applied, was the method for evaluation of intersection control alternatives, which in this case represents multiple objective decision making. A compensatory structure was employed and it was found that an additive model, which is the midely used method suits best of all. The computer programs for microcomputer were used to assist both in simulation and in multiobjective decision process.
