NASA's Office of Aeronautics and Space Technology assessed enabling 21st century space power technology, supporting bold new mission objectives, e.g., Humans to Maras and Lunar Base mission. This paper highlights the critical technology requirements and also discusses the progress to date in NASA's ongoing research and technology activities in: photovoltaic power systems, energy storage systems, advanced solar dynamic power systems, and space nuclear reactor power systems. Space power technology program plans and goals are discussed for both the ongoing research and technology base and the new Civil Space Technology Initiative.
