Advanced avionics offers a promise of safer, more efficient flying, but the cost of implementation has been steadily increasing. The current generation of avionics often requires a three-tiered maintenance structure, which adds significantly to the operating cost of the aircraft. By taking advantage of advanced architectures and development techniques, standardized modular avionics systems can be developed, logistic support simplified, operating costs reduced, and the reliability improved. The path to a high-performance avionics architecture has been identified and Lockheed is committed to it.
