This paper discusses two novel sensors for use in automotive environments, one is a fuel flow sensor, the other is a fuel level sensor. The flow sensor uses an optical technique, based on viewing the light scattered by particles that are being carried along by the flowing fuel. The level sensor uses an electromechanical technique, which vibrates a rod that is immersed in the fuel and measures the resonant frequency of the rod.
