The train control system of electrical rail vehicles has the task to convert the driver's driving and braking commands in order to ensure a safe train operation. For high-speed trains additional requirements are to be met because of the high speed of 350 km/h and, as a consequence, because of the longer braking distances, and the travelling comfort requirements. In order to meet these rigorous demands, about 10 years ago AEG started to develop components for such a system. The result of these efforts is now available. It is a high-performance train control and regulation system which is based on microcomputers. Following today's technical trend, the decentralized computer subsystems are connected through optical fibres. When tested on the ICE (prototype of the new high speed train of the German Federal Railway), the train control system proved successfully.
