Previous programs have illustrated the need for the in-flight demonstration of Electromechanically Actuated Primary Flight Control Surface. The U.S. Air Force, Lockheed-Georgia, and Sundstrand Corporation have recently concluded the demonstration of the world's first primary flight control electromechanical actuator (EMA). This paper describes the development of the system and the conclusions that may be drawn from the program.
