The Air Force Avionics Laboratory is sponsoring The Adaptive Tactical Navigation Development (ATN DEV) program to design, develop and demonstrate, in a computer simulation environment, an ATN system. The ATN system will combine Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques and advanced navigation algorithms to effectively manage the multisensor navigation suites of 1990's tactical aircraft. Recent results of the ATN effort in defining ATN functional requirements and recommending appropriate software architectures are described in this paper. The architectural discussion covers federation of navigation filters for the projected multisensor suite and AI paradigms for 'Expert Navigation' modules.
