The safety system of the TVE (a Maglev site in Emsland, Germany) has the task to permit a travel only then, when the destination and the speed are acceptable by a given safety criterion. If a defect occurs during the travel, which can lead to a dangerous state, the train will be stopped immediately by the safety system. The safety system consists of ten safety-units distributed over the plant. The software of each of these safety-units has a size of about 2.5 Kbyte. The programs are one-channel programs, that means they are not diverse. For this reason, a proof of correctness is necessary. The verification procedure used by TUeV Rheinland consists of program analysis and test. The program analysis is the most important means and is described in detail. The basic idea consists in a 'diverse back development' The verification starts with the program code and gains step by step the specification of the solved problem. If the specification of the solved problem is identical to the specification of the problem to be solved the verification is finished successfully.
