Noise can produce negative effects on people's health since it interferes with basic activities such as sleeping, resting, studying and communicating. Road traffic noise is the most significant source of environmental noise pollution in cities. The use of noise reducing asphalts is one of the means of noise abatement measures applied along existing national roads as well as in new road construction projects. The main theme of this paper is the presentation of different types of noise reducing asphalts, specifically, porous asphalt, asphalt concrete for very thin layers and Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA) implemented in Europe and USA. Additionally, new noise-reducing pavement technologies of the future are presented.
