Adiyaman City is located in Southeast of Turkey. The annual total solar energy is about 1600 kWh/m.2 year. Therefore, a solar powered minibus called "Commagene" was designed, manufactured and tested for transportation. Commagene mainly has 12 solar photovoltaic (PV) modules, an MPPT (Maximum power point tracker), a maintenance free long life gel battery pack, a regenerative (can also be used as generator) brushless DC electric motor , an ECU (Electronic control unit), a differential, instrument panel, steering system, brake system, brake and gas pedals, mechanical equipments, chassis, frame and automatic charge device. The minibus was used for people transportation in the city during one year (June 2010-May 2011). Commagene was loaded with 5 and 10 persons (driver included) during all tests for its total transportation distance. As a result, the average daily transportation of Commagene was defined as 33.30 km, 29.65 km, 18.25 km and 10.06 km for standard (asphalt-paved road with gradient of about 0%) and mixed road (asphalt-paved and unimproved roads with different gradients of 0%...20%) and for 5 and 10 persons.. The result demonstrates that Commagene can be used for daily transportation of people in Adiyaman City, Turkey when average daily travelling distance is considered as 5 km.
