ICT applications in cars gain increasing interest However, a majority of these applications cannot be used during driving since they require visual and manual operation by touching the screen any may lead to severe driver distraction. As a consequence speech based services and applications for communication from/to and inside the car are deployed. This overview paper describes testing, optimization and validation techniques allowing the deployment of high quality and low distracting systems in cars. The paper focuses on the applications hands free communication, emergency call communication, m-car communication and FM radio quality.
