Automated driving is experiencing remarkable strides in technical developments. In contrast, the awareness of these technologies along with the conditions and consequences for real life automated driving is developing much slower. Currently, R&D activities within OEMs and Tier1s are driven more by technical possibilities and market potentials then by beneficial and practical applications such as traffic control, accident prevention and an increase of efficiency. It seems that user needs such as driver relief and comfort are considered a mere aftereffect of automated driving. Unsolved legal requirements of the automated operation of vehicles are almost negligible in comparison to aspects of operational safety, particularly to the use of individual mobility data. The technically useful exchange of vehicle data with its environment also provides information which is not necessarily required for vehicle or traffic control, but is highly valuable for commercial use. Consequently, this data may serve as a kick-off force for the implementation of automated driving. Individual motion profiles, current position and the number of passengers can be evaluated through this technology.
