In today's electric/electronic (E/E) architecture design for vehicles, model-based methods are used to control the complexity and perform optimisations. Here, a joint consideration of software and hardware extends is necessary. In the early stages of development, the development and modelling in the function- and networking-layer is performed in parallel and very extensive models with complex dependencies between the layers exist. As an additional requirement, the networking hardware components are managed and evolved in modular construction kits. However, e-drive and other innovations will further increase the complexity and have a major impact on the Electrical/Electronic architectures of modern premium cars. Modelling efficiency, the reduction of modelling effort and the improvement of model quality are thus major challenges for the model based E/E architecture development. Hence, a novel concept tackling these issues is presented in this paper. The new reuse concept system construction kit for E/E systems proposes a holistic model of an E/E system embracing the E/E modules. The concept replaces the separate modelling in the various layers and shows an approach to model and manage E/E systems central and across layers. The novel concept thus allows a transparent description of E/E systems as well as the description of the dependencies between E/E systems, functions, and E/E modules. Besides the model quality, the concept improves the advanced E/E architecture design by reusing the modelled E/E systems. Especially in domains with fast changing requirements and constrains, like e-drive, the concept thus provides a rapid and powerful approach for conceptual work and assessment in the E/E architecture development.
