Poclain Hydraulics, as a producer of hydrostatic transmission technology components, presents a system that provides extra traction force for HCV. It consists in the installation of a complementary hydraulic transmission to the standard mechanical one, which provides torque on a non-mechanically powered axle - on-demand and only when needed. The system called AddiDrive™ consists in dedicated parts such as motors, pump, valve block, electronics and software. The hydraulic motors are directly integrated into the hub of an axle. They are powered by a pump that is driven by a power take-off (PTO) of the truck's diesel engine. The valve block is engaging- and disengaging the hydraulic motors on the fly. An ECU, linked to the truck-CAN-bus, controls the correct pump swash plate angel during gear box shifting and the valve-shiftings at all times. The system weight is around 400 kg lower than an equivalent mechanical All Wheel Drive (AWD) solution. It combines the advantages of a mechanical AWD truck such as extra traction and the advantages of a standard truck like maneuverability, lower fuel consumption and low center of gravity height. Last, the dedicated software allows to customize the truck according to the application.
