The development process for the real-wood decorative elements in the BMW i3 was conducted under the special premises of 'sustainability' and 'making sustainability visible'. From selection of the veneer to FSC® certification and surface treatment new avenues had to be explored, numerous assessments made and even more decisions arrived at. The result is well worth looking at: more naturalness, a more authentic impression of wood and greater sustainability while retaining a high level of durability, quality and functional properties.
